As the owner of Salvosa BJJ Ascension, one of the most respected Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gyms in Canada, Omar Salvosa prefers his passion to do the talking. A multi-time national champion and the 2014 No-Gi World Champion, Omar has fought and competed around the world. With a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Master Marcus Soares, he is one of the few authentic black belts teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the country. “In the early days, the biggest hurdle was that the general public didn’t quite know what Jiu-Jitsu was,” says Omar.
That all seemed to change in 2005, when Omar noticed a growing demand for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, thanks in large part to the Ultimate Fighter reality show. Teaching since 1998, Omar decided it was time to open his own gym.
