Port Moody's Linda Berg has always had a strong desire to help people and make them happy, so it was only natural these characteristics would become part of her business philosophy.
She opened Wish On a Star, her family-operated specialty gift and home décor shop, to some degree, on impulse. In part, it was because of the attention she received after winning first prize (a Chevy Blazer) for best kitchen design in a contest with American Home Style & Garden magazine. People from all across America were calling her interested in the accessories they saw in her home, and wanting to know where she purchased the little things.
"It got me thinking how hard it is for people to find gifts and décor that are unique and accessible," says Linda. "I thought this innate flair for finding things people loved was something I could pass on, create a personable place to shop and change the role of retail back to an experience that was really enjoyable. The store evolved from there, because, when you wish on a star, it's about making dreams come true — the store is a land of wishes."
