Restaurants that are still thriving after more than three decades in business are rare. Tom Grigoriou, Nick Georgoulis and Larry Adam, co-owners and operators of Wellington’s Steak House, make it look easy. Opened in 1979, the award-winning dining institution has long been a favourite of patrons and food critics alike. Pretty impressive, considering the dining industry sees food trends come and go, and restaurants open and close like a chef’s oven door during dinner hour.
Its subdued lighting and country club decor give the restaurant an ambiance that’s hard to find in the restaurant scene. While patrons dine, they can watch chef Nick sear fine cuts of beef in the glass-enclosed grilling area in the centre of the dining room.
Wellington’s magic combo of fine food and warm atmosphere has attracted some big-name patrons, too. These include Stephen Harper (before he became prime minister), the late Alberta Premier Ralph Klein, many members of the Calgary Flames hockey club and Canadian Olympic equestrian star Eric Lamaze, who’s a fixture at Spruce Meadows competitions.

These are all words that describe not only the service that we received but the quality of the food that was prepared. Of the 12 people at the birthday dinner only 3 had decent meals, in their estimations.
The appetizer was muscle and they had not been cleaned properly, the seafood bisque was so hot that the bowl was too hot to touch (suspected microwave) the Prime Rib lacked any real flavor and was overcooked as was the potato which they carpet bombed with sour cream to hide its failings.
My wife had the Caesar Salad which they forgot to put dressing on and the Seafood Neuburg which had a consistency similar to wood glue with shrimp and scallops in it.
The waiter then put three other peoples items on our bill from other guests and charged me for a piece of birthday cake I DID NOT ORDER.
The only person I had respect for was the young lad that filled our water glasses.
Wellingtons is my favorite restaurant in Calgary. The food time after time is remarkable. Not to mention the service. If you are looking for a good steak/seafood dinner this is the place to go. Small, quiet little place with high end dining. Love it!!
