The secret to Tops Pizza and Sports Bar's success is simple: a family pizza recipe passed down to owner Jimmy Tsoulamanis by his mother. When the restaurant's doors first opened in February 1979, he used that recipe to bring in the customers, and it’s the exact same pizza he’s served every day since.
“It’s really cool when you have someone come back that moved away for 20 years,” says Jimmy's son Peter, who now co-owns the restaurant. “They eat the pizza and say ‘It hasn’t changed a bit’.”
Tops Pizza and Sports Bar isn’t Jimmy’s first restaurant. He launched Star Pizza in 1969, and the food was an instant success. “Everybody was telling me that it was the best pizza they’d ever had, so I decided to name it Tops Pizza,” he remembers. “It sounded like a good name.”
Tops Pizza's most popular pie by far is the first pizza Jimmy ever sold — the Tops Original, which is topped with pepperoni, mushrooms, bacon, green peppers, shrimp and olives.
All of the food is made completely homemade using only fresh ingredients. As well as eat-in service, Tops offers take-out both for pick up and delivery.
