With something as homey as freshly baked pie, it’s fitting that the launch of Nancy Goemans’s The Pie Hole started with a daughter’s wish. “When my mother came to visit, she would always bake pies," explains Nancy. "But when my mom passed away, my eldest daughter, who is special needs, asked, ‘Who is going to bake pies with me? Because when I grow up, I want to bake pies all day.’ I figured, if that’s what she wants, I’m going to have to be the one to make it happen. So, I started looking into if it was a viable concept. I love pie. Stress cannot exist in the presence of pie.”
Nancy’s research determined that a shop dedicated to sweet and savoury pies would fill a gap in the market. She opened the doors of The Pie Hole in September 2015, following a three-decades-long career in food styling and hospitality-industry marketing.
Nancy works with her team to develop many of the recipes, though she credits The Pie Hole’s highly lauded mincemeat pie to her great-great grandmother.
