Back in the ‘70s and ‘80s, Embrujo Flamenco was a hotbed for Spanish cuisine and lively Flamenco entertainment in Toronto. It was run by Maria and Juan Salgado until they retired in 1986. Their son Jose brought back the name, the authentic cuisine, and the Flamenco dancing when he opened Tapas at Embrujo nearly two decades later in 2002. “There were no Tapas restaurants in the city back then,” says Jose. “Now our version has been around longer than the original. For us and to me personally it was very gratifying to launch a successful business and more so because it had that family history to it.”
Since Tapas at Embrujo opened in 2002, "tapas" has became popular with restaurants of all styles, though tapas doesn’t just mean serving dishes in small portions. The food served at Tapas at Embrujo is authentic Spanish cuisine, created by someone who grew up in that culture, and Jose believes he's still the only authentic Spanish tapas restaurant in Toronto.
Fabulous time had by all in our party, the wait staff was very friendly and accommodating to our very picky needs. The owner was very easy to deal with when booking and the evening went off without a hitch.
