In a city of bakeries, Lior Aronovich counts on one thing to set him apart from the competition — 20 years of establishing Amadeus Patisserie as one of Toronto’s go-to European bakeries. So far that’s been more than enough to draw traffic from all over the Greater Toronto Area to Lior’s shop in Thornhill.
Lior opened the bakery with his wife, Anat, in 1992 after moving to Canada from Israel, where he’d trained. A few years later he began his now-regular trips to France, the country he considers to be the best when it comes to developing new recipes and techniques, bringing those back with him to experiment.
“Whatever you do, you have to have passion,” he says, explaining how a summer job at a bakery turned into a career. “I found my passion in the baking. That’s the reason. I like to do new stuff. I don’t like to be old fashioned and I have to be motivated by new recipes, new trends, all the time.”
Pricy cakes and pastries. We tried 4 different pastries in our last two visits, tasted OK, nice look but really nothing special that you can’t find somewhere else.
Absolutely the best cake and pastry shop in Toronto. Stunning, clean, crisp decor. Excellent staff who are knowledgeable and friendly.
If you want to impress someone this is the place to go.
