Subpar food. The old vines restaurant really needs a new chef. The atmosphere is amazing, the wine is great, even the service is exceptional, but the food is subpar especially for the price. I love Quails Gate so much and I hate that I am constantly disappointed in their food after going time after time. To be honest I have been many times over the last few years and can honestly say I have not enjoyed one meal. Their truffle fries are about the only thing that is actually seasoned properly with
Expensive gourmet food tastes good in a slightly above-average atmosphere. The wait staff are also slightly above-average but I wouldn't call them excellent as we had one with a bit of an attitude the last time we had lunch there. Not a bad view. The food is not consistant - we've been there for 3 lunches and each time someone at the table has been disappointed, including myself, although the last time we went there it was good. The welcoming committee as you enter are friendly, although each visit I've seen wait staff hanging around this area, joking with the greeter and that's not good. I don't suggest anyone sit near the patio doors (especially if you're a senior like us) as it can be cold and the wasps are inquisative.
