From start to finish this place was HORRIBLE. Dry disgusting overprice food served by lazy ignorant rude people. The manager was disrespectful and when asked for the owner’s direct contact refused to provide it. Finally contacted the owner and they were just as unprofessional. -5/5 stars.
consistently great with short wait times after placing an order. been there at least 10 times, never had an issue. always met/exceeded expectations.
This place is on my short list of good restaurants in this small city. They carry a great list of craft beer both on tap and in the bottle. The food is fairly consistent. I recommend the pulled pork sunday or pulled pork sandwich. Also the waffle fries are great covered in beans. All in all good stuff.
As soon as you walk in the door you know its going to be good. The smell of the grill and the dry rub makes you salivate like Pavlov's dog. I usually always get the ribs/pulled pork combo with the mac and cheese and waffle fries. And guys....the mac and cheese....is to DIE for. Seriously, I would go for the mac and cheese ALONE. The creamiest you'll ever taste, with a sauce like velvet.
Our first time here, my boyfriend suggested ordering "Que" for 2 people at $32.99 because it seemed like enough food for us to share. It consisted of ribs, pulled pork and choice of 3 sides. Being fry lovers, we got 2 waffle fries and macaroni and cheese. We also decided to try the peppercorn onion rings because we were both starving. The onion rings were decent. We had never tried pulled pork before so this was a first. It was pretty good and very tender. However, the ribs and pulled pork came on a single plate so there wasn't as much as we'd expected. The Mac n Cheese was really cheesy and filled me up so that all I could really do was try a bit of pulled pork and ribs. Mostly, I worked on the corn bread (extra $1) and waffle fries. The fries are great! Best waffle fries in Windsor and the highlight of our meal. We came back a second time mainly for their waffle fries. Since I have a criminal sweet tooth, I decided to give the Mississippi Mud Pie a try. It was okay, nothing too special and at around $7, I don't think it was worth it. Another thing to note, my boyfriend enjoys this place because it serves Steam Whistle on tap. Overall, it's a great place to eat but I don't recommend "Que" for 2. Our second visit there, we both ordered separately and tried a (half) pulled pork poutine. We requested that they use waffle fries instead (we're addicts). It was not really worth the price ($5.95). My boyfriend liked the gravy but the cheese curds were still a little cold and not melted. My boyfriend got ribs with waffle fries and I tried the big hoss burger. My burger was good, very meaty but, I disliked how it didn't come with any lettuce or tomatoes. We will be back, primarily for the waffle fries.
I'm giving this place a pre-emptive review because we didn't actually get to eat there. I've heard great things. Upon arrival, when rounding the building before entering, it smelled fantastic. After we entered, we realized we should have made reservations. It was a Saturday night and the place was busy. Very busy. The economy must be picking up or something... because I haven't seen a restaurant this busy in Windsor in a long time. BUT... I've worked in the restaurant industry for a long time, and did a quick scan of the place. There were people in line to get in, the bar was backed up with what appeared to be bored people waiting to get tables, and in the main dining area, very few people had food on their plates. The host, or waitress, whoever she was... "greeting" at the door, was quite stressed and rude... yelling " who's on the list..." I will go back, I want to try it. The place definately lacked atmosphere and the staff seemed overwhelmed. But it smelled so good!
Can't see wny this place doesn't have all 5 stars, best southern resturant i've ever tried personally, and some colleagues from the Southern U.S would closely agree. This place is fantastic, I spent a lot of time in Windsor this year, and was unfortunately eating out a lot. We bumped into Smoke and Spice by total accident, and man. what a great mistake. Everything is fantastic, from the pickled spears, to the redneck nacho's, and my personal favourite, the mac and cheese. yes, i said mac and cheese.. ITS PHENOMENAL. The hot sauces on the table, and the dry rubbed meat.. This place is 100% authentic. I'm not even from Windsor, and have been planning a trip back, just to visit here.. Even the Okanagan beer is fantastic, i'm now hooked, and cant seem to find anywhere but this place. This is real deal southern.. Bring an appetite, because i guarantee you will walk out stuffed!
We had fairly high expectations, since this is the only "smokehouse" restaurant in town. Suffice to say, they were dashed. It was late Sunday afternoon and the restaurant was fairly full so we had to wait at the bar. The bar only has about 10 seats and I am usually fairly loud, but I could not get the bartender's attention to get a drink. This went on for 15 minutes in a 10 seat bar, unbelievable. The food was dry and the portions were small. I would not go back.
AWESOME... WE NEEDED A PLACE LIKE THIS IN WINDSOR; THE SOUTHERN FLAVORS ARE THERE WITH THE SMOKE AND THE GREAT COMBINATION WITH THE RUB SPICE. LAY DOWN ATMOSPHERE THAT MAKES YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE… I WENT WITH MI WIFE AND WE BOTH HAD THE SMALL RED NECK NACHOS (EXCELLENT) WILE WE WAITED TO BE SEATED ON A SATURDAY NIGHT WHICH IT IS VERY BUSY, AND IT FILLED US UP. DO NO MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE BECAUSE THE FOOD AFTER IS WELL PROPORTIONED AND YOU ARE GOING TO END UP BRINGING LEFT OVER HOME, WHICH IS NOT A BAD THING.
I went to Smoke and Spice for lunch one weeekend afternoon. My party was pretty much the only one there so the place was quiet which was nice. I ordered the Elray sandwich which was beef brisket. It was okay. It was pretty huge and had some nice toppings but was just not my thing. (I won't hold that against the restaurant as it was just a matter of taste). The side of potato salad was okay - a bit too runny though for me. My husband liked his side of fries but the other person in our party did not like their fries at all. For me, it would have been nice had we had 2 sides. I thought the price was a little high for what I got. I will go back to try ribs and give them a 2nd chance but for now, I am not impressed.
We went to Smoke & Spice, a relatively new eatery in Windsor, over the Christmas period. The atmosphere was warm and homely, with lots of dark wood and some great, humourous signs. We ordered the Great Canadian Pig-Out, and we couldn't have been more satisfied. There were five of us who went in on this feast, and there was more than enough food to go around. For less than $20 a piece, we recieved; -a whole chicken; -a slab of ribs; -1/2 pound of pulled pork (incredibly tender); -a tray of warm corn bread; -3 bowls of mac & cheese (it was meant to be 2, but we asked the waitress and -2 bowls of waffle fries -chilli -bbq beans -greens -coleslaw -potato salad We were stuffed! The waiting staff was very helpful, and seemed genuinely happy to help. The food was perfectly cooked and came out quickly. What's more, at the end of the meal, we all received a 'mystery envelope', containing one of several discounts, to be applied if we returned in January. We certainly will.
