I heard good things about the merchant man pub. But our experience really wasn't good. The starter, hickory nachoes were OKAY. My meal, a peanut crushed chicken sandwhich tasted a bit like christmas trees and the peanut added no flavor but probably a lot of extra calories (i couldn't tell there was peanuts). My partner ordered a burger, which was possibly the worst offender. The buger was burnt. Not a nice burnt, a real crispy burnt with a terrible burnt flavor. There was no side veggie with either meal and the fries took up 3/4 of the plate. Not exactly the balance I was looking for. The fries were OKAY, my partners were very over salted. Not impressed with the food at all. The building is beautiful but it really falls flat when you look at the terrible "cheers-style" bar look of the decor. The placemats were humorous.
The service was the best part. We recieved promt service and the server was very nice when we told her about the burger incident.
Probably wouldnt go there again if I could help it.
I visited this restaurant while vacationing in Eastern Canada (our guide book recommended it). This is a lovely, cozy restaurant near the water. The fish 'n' chips were great but the clam chowder was the highlight of the meal- the best I've ever had! I recommend this place to friends visiting PEI and if I ever find myself in Charlottetown again, I'll definitely go back.
